has big plans for her time slot.
During an appearance on “Good Morning America” on Friday,
Lady Gaga shared with co-host Michael Strahan that she is
“absolutely beyond elated” to have been chosen as the headliner
for the Super Bowl in 2017. She revealed that she and her team
are already brainstorming ideas to make the performance stand
out from ones in years prior and is promising to make it “a special
experience” for all. The “American Horror Story: My Roanoke
Nightmare” star added that she plans to perform a few songs off
her album “Joanne,” which released on Friday as well.
Being able to perform music from her latest project is made all
the more special by the fact that her grandmother — Joanne’s
mother — will be attending the Super Bowl with her.

“I was thinking yesterday about how wonderful it’s going to be
playing maybe a few new songs from the new record at the
Super Bowl with my grandmother, who is Joanne’s mother,” she
said (via Us Weekly). “She’s blind, but she’ll be able to hear, I
think, from the stands, and I think it’ll be a proud moment for our
family. And that means more to me than anything.”

Lady Gaga shared the inspiration for “Joanne,” as well as where
the album got it’s name, with her 19.1 million Instagram followers
on Oct. 16. In a series of two posts she revealed that she wrote
the first lyrics for the song, jumped in the shower and then threw
on a fun hat. The name was derived from that of her aunt on her
father’s side. Lady Gaga, 30, wrote in one caption that her father
chose Joanne for her middle name after his sister. It's ties to her
family made it the perfect album title and thus, “Joanne” was born.

Additional inspiration for the album comes from her relationship
with former fiancé Taylor Kinney. The pair, who were together
for several years, called off their engagement in July 2016 though
it may not be over for good. During an interview with People
magazine, Lady Gaga said that her relationship with Kinney, 35,
“absolutely” served as inspiration for some of the songs on “Joanne.” She explained further, telling the publication that she’s got a “rebellious spirit” and while she’s always wanted to be “a good girl” for her father, her fiancé and others, she simply can’t be tamed.
“I [also] always wanted to be a good girl, and Joanne [her late
aunt] was such a good girl,” Lady Gaga said. “But I have such a
rebellious spirit, and my father was always very angry. He drank
because of his sister’s death. I was trying to understand him through making this record, and in that, also trying to understand why I love men that are cowboys.”
The album features 11 songs — 14 if you purchase the deluxe
edition — including “Perfect Illusion,” “Diamond Heart,” “John
Wayne” and more. Lady Gaga enlisted the help of Florence
Welsh of Florence and the Machine for her track “Hey Girl.”
